Problem Solved.

So after my independent group meetings at the library I got some pretty helpful feedback on what story to go with for my project.  Here’s what I heard

The kidnapping story is way too mainstream and would just be boring. It would not stand out to the audience and probably put them to sleep.

The kidnapping story, although, very different, it’s something people have seen before and is usually predictable.

The robbery however was thought to be cool and exciting. Not because it’s different, but because there is so much to work with and so many different ways to get every element from a film expected from us. I was told the numerous ways I can start my film off and how I could make it intense. A lot of quick shots can get your audience anxious and their heart pumping for what is to come. I also used WatchMojo as a way to create bigger perspective on how these movies can create incentive in a character to rob a bank, whether if it’s a squad or a one-man job.

Just wanted share one of the best videos I've seen from WatchMojo that has given me a lot of information to look upon when i make my choice on the the plot. These Drama Films are one of the most recognizable films in history. I've seen most of them and took the time to watch some this weekend to understand other perspectives on how to create emotions which an audience can appeal from.

These films show the developments of characters throughout their films and create an understanding of how to connect with an audience emotionally.

STUCK!

This week my group members and I have discussed some pretty good ideas. We are sticking to drama and we’re so confused on which story to go with because there is so much to think about in the long run.

Story 1- Bank Robbery

Story 2- Kidnapping

Story 3- Recovering from a past loved one

Each story has its pros and cons. Story two is borderline not school appropriate and story 1 will be a challenge to give our audience an idea of what will happen after our opening. We do not plan on actually filming the robbery just a guy who is motivating himself to do it. We have to think of an incentive to give this character for this action that will also give insight on what is to come. Story three, which is the most possible and is also the most mainstream idea. My group and I want to stay away from the norms of every film where the protagonist is sad and is on the come up.  If we want the robbery to be drama then we have to make the characters incentive a little deeper than normal so we can have emotions brought to our audience. The kidnapping will be need to be modified to fit the genre which would require a lot of thinking and time, so it is plan C.

Research

To gain some sort of knowledge on how drama films should be, I took the time to research some information on common appliances to the films and how they can differentiate a lot because all drama movies are different. Contemporary/Modern Drama Films was a resourceful website to understand the basis of most drama movies. Here is a good understanding of how most narratives are in these films (from the hyperlink) “Narrative Structure The protagonist is illustrated with their environment/social class. Also, the protagonists family and friends are shown as well so that the audience is aware with his/hers relationships with other characters. Then a distribution of the equilibrium is situated, founded by the environment or the antagonist, which brings upon issues for the protagonist. Protagonist undergoes through life-threatening encounters or chooses a decision to even issues out. Fir example: Seeking revenge.In that case, the protagonist either has made an escape from his/her problems due to their decisions, or the protagonist choices has led to another death of a loved one or themselves.” This is basically what we want the audience to think will happen after the opening of the film. The development of an individual is vital to make the film a drama because seeing the character change throughout the film brings connection with its audience.

Me being the movie freak I am, I spend most of my time when I am not watching movies, learning about them and knowing history of the greatest and worst film of our time. WatchMojo is one of YouTube’s most subscribed channels and is my personal favorite channel to learn about films. I looked up some of the best drama films and movies of all times which are categorized by top ten in most videos. Top Ten Greatest Best Picture Winners is a perfect example of how to learn from these films and differentiate these dramas. Each of those masterpieces have different variables that contribute to making it a drama.

I have yet to meet up with my group members, but I have taken this time meanwhile to brainstorm on my own some ideas for the film. Heads up: My ideas or opinions do not come from any form of research, for they are all my own thoughts and reasonings. Me being a film addict and self proclaimed critic of film, I believe a drama would catch the attention of bigger audience. From what I have seen over the years, dramas like Gone by the wind, 12 Angry Men, and Spotlight have been the most positively critically acclaimed films of our time. These films are masterpieces which have reached out to the hearts of many audiences all over the world. Me, being the critics I am, can recognize that a good drama can really intrigue an audience and sell at the box office. A win win situation is what I'm looking for here. I want my audience to love the film, so when they pay for their ticket they feel like it was worth it. I get money and they get an experience, so everyone is happy. I want to make this film focus on an independent so my audience can feel an attachment with my character. I've always felt a connection after a movie finishes with a character.

By April 9th we will have this film sent to Cambridge and hope for the best!

The Genesis

Welcome to my blog. I am Juan Jinete and for my first post ever, I'd like to start you off with the origins of my inspiration, discuss my work ethic, and hopefully, intrigue you. My final project is one hell of a job, but it comes with an experience and an opportunity to excel in my dreams. I have 5 weeks to complete this project and give it everything I have. I chose to make the introduction of a film because I am very intrigued by the film industry and look forward to pursuing a career in it. Everyone has there own hobby that makes them feel like there isn't a problem in the world, a hobby that makes you feel stress free, my hobby is watching movies all day.. I repeat.. All day. Throughout my life I've given myself the pleasure of enjoying and hating over hundreds or maybe a thousand movies. There is nothing in the world to me like watching a great film. I find it incredible that a person can create a film and make you sincerely feel for it or bring you emotions (no matter what it is). There is a hidden genius to that and not that many people can see it or appreciate it the way I do. I chose to do a film in my project because my dream is to one day bring those "emotions" or "feelings" to people and hope to make them love film as much as I do. Creating a film is not a one man job, this is a task that must be completed with a team with whom you feel will get the job done and give you success. Creativity, logic, and vision are vital components to creating a film. In all honesty I'm probably the biggest procrastinator there is, but I don't bullshit assignments i actually care about or that I'm interested in. This project for example will be given 100% of my effort because in the long haul it will do me good.
